The Attorney General is seeking applications from qualified persons for appointment as a full-time Commissioner for a period of seven years and as an Acting Commissioner.
There are multiple positions available for both full time Commissioners and Acting Commissioners.
Commissioners and Acting Commissioners exercise the jurisdiction of the Court to determine certain of its cases, either by conciliation or hearing on the merits.
Selection criteria for Commissioners and Acting Commissioners: Appointees must have at least one of the qualifications detailed in section 12 of the Land and Environment Court Act 1979. These include special knowledge of and experience (and, in some cases, formal qualifications) in such fields as local government administration, town or country planning, environmental planning, environmental science, environmental assessment, land valuation, architecture, engineering, surveying, building construction, the management of natural resources and Crown land, urban design or heritage, or being an Australian lawyer.
Commissioners are appointed on a full time basis and Acting Commissioners can work on a full time, part-time, part-year or other flexible basis.
